The buzz goes on: Romney favors Pawlenty for VP?

Former Minnesota Gov. Pawlenty has jumped to the top of Romney’s shortlist after emerging as the most effective — and well-liked — surrogate for the GOP nominee-to-be, according to several Republicans familiar with campaign deliberations, Politico reports.

Pawlenty indeed seems to have the inside track this week, The Wall Street Journal reports.

National Journal’s Jill Lawrence writes in The Atlantic that Pawlenty is the best guy for the No. 2 spot on the Republican ticket. He’s got a “politically useful” life story, Lawrence says. And he’s rousing crowds on the stump for Romney.

Former Minnesota Republican House Speaker Steve Sviggum says Pawlenty’s strengths include a clean record of public service, ECM Publishing’s Capitol reporter T.W. Budig notes in this take on where Pawlenty stands.

What about Florida Sen. Marco Rubio? He still leads the online buzz among potential GOP vice presidential candidates, but two other names have the online momentum: Pawlenty and New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte, Constitution Daily says.

Romney on Tuesday denied reports that Rubio was not being seriously considered, the Associated Press reports. Romney said his campaign is “thoroughly vetting” Rubio as it searches for a running mate.

Pawlenty was on CNN Monday, mostly blasting President Obama’s immigration stances.
