McCain rips Bachmann’s Muslim Brotherhood accusations

Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., is taking flak for claiming that the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated the U.S. government.

Bachmann has specifically called into question Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

On Wednesday, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., was highly critical of Bachmann’s charges, although he did not mention her by name in a Wednesday speech on the Senate floor. McCain said he had worked with Abedin for years and knows her as an “intelligent, upstanding, hardworking and loyal servant” of the country. McCain called Bachmann’s claims “scurrilous.”

“To say that the accusations … are not substantiated by the evidence they offer is to be overly polite and diplomatic about it,” McCain said.

Bachmann and Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., have traded barbs over the Bachmann’s comments. Ellison has called on her to offer a full accounting of evidence to support the charge.

Ellison got a letter back, but he says it’s “16 pages of nothing.”
