Bachmann pens op-ed: Beware of radical Islam

Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., is commenting more about the firestorm of criticism she ignited after making allegations that the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated U.S. government. She specifically named Rep. Keith Ellison, R-Minn., and Huma Abedin, an aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

In a new column in the Star Tribune Thursday, she says, “The Washington establishment has two choices: It can either remain asleep about the threat of radical Islam, or it can do everything possible to rally the country to a defense and preservation of American values and our way of life. We owe that to the American people.”

Critics, including high-profile Republicans, have said Bachmann’s allegations are without merit. House Speaker John Boehner called her commments “dangerous.”

Earlier this week, Bachmann addressed the controversy in an interview with the Pioneer Press. She said she is being criticized because political correctness is trumping national security.

Meanwhile, New York Magazine writes that Minnesota may not care that their congresswoman is on a “McCarthyistic witch hunt.”
