Chick-fil-A ‘kiss-in’ protest fizzles in Minnesota

Gay marriage supporters staged “kiss-in” demonstrations Friday at Chick-fil-A restaurants across the nation, but few showed up for it at Minnesota’s three Chick-fil-A restaurants, KARE 11 reports.

Chick-fil-A is the latest battleground in the culture war over gay marriage. Restaurant president Dan Cathy sparked controversy when he said he supports the “biblical definition of the family unit.” He added, “We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

NPR recently examined how the Chick-fil-A controversy has been a wake-up call for corporations. NPR reports that Chick-fil-A, through its charitable arm, has donated millions of dollars to opponents of same-sex marriage.

Cathy’s public opposition to gay marriage has landed him in a lonely corner of corporate America, the Los Angeles Times reports.

But Cathy has a lot of supporters. On Aug. 1, diners showed up in support in droves at his outlets nationwide.

The counter-protest, a gay kiss-in, was scheduled for Friday at Chick-fil-As nationwide.
