Wis. Gov. Walker gets prominent role at Republican convention

Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus has announced that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will get a high-profile speaking spot at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., later this month.

As Huffington Post notes, Walker has been a hero on the right since he pushed through an anti-union bill in Wisconsin in 2011 that stripped most public employees of collective bargaining rights. He survived a Democratic attempt to recall him from office earlier this year.

He’ll join a slate of high-profile speakers at the convention.

Meanwhile, Walker’s wife Tonette is recovering after she had her appendix removed early Wednesday in Milwaukee, the Associated Press reports.
