Minnesota-born music legend Prince may be heading to St. Paul to play a concert next month.
Sources tell MPR News that Prince is in talks with the city to put on a show downtown Sept. 15, but not inside the Xcel Energy Center. The city in a statement wouldn’t confirm or deny discussions with the musician.
It’s been a big year for the Purple One, who in May had the soundtrack to his hit 1984 movie, “Purple Rain,” inducted into the National Registry at the Library of Congress.
Born Prince Rogers Nelson on June 7, 1958 in Minneapolis, Prince has long kept Minnesota his home despite achieving international fame in both music and movies.
“Purple Rain” earned him an Oscar for Best Original Song Score for the film at the Academy Awards ceremony in 1985. His music has also earned him seven Grammy Awards.
In 2004, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
