Dayton defends contracts for state workers

Governor Mark Dayton is aggressively defending contracts for more than 27,000 state workers after Republicans expressed disappointment with the terms, the Associated Press says. The contracts include a two percent raise for workers.

The Star Tribune says Dayton responded to the criticism saying the contract is well within the parameters of the contracts negotiated by former Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

The subcommittee, led by Sen. Mike Parry, R-Waseca, and Rep. Steve Drazkowski, R-Mazeppa, will decide if the contracts should be approved or rejected Thursday morning.

This isn’t the first public dispute between Parry and Dayton. Earlier this month, Parry made remarks that exaggerated Dayton’s use of anti-depressants, accusing the governor of “pill popping.”
