Legislative panel rejects state worker contracts

A Republican-led legislative panel rejected new contracts for more than 27,000 state employees, the Associated Press says. The Subcommittee on Employee Relations voted 6-4 on Thursday to reject the two-year contracts that would give state workers a two percent raise.

In a news conference following the vote, Senator Mike Parry, R-Waseca, calls Governor Dayton “irrational” and refers to union leaders as “dinosaurs,” The Uptake reports. Watch Parry’s remarks below:

A supporter of the contracts, state Rep. Ryan Winkler, DFL-Golden Valley, tells MinnPost state employees deserve fair wages and benefits and lost $65 million in wages, almost a six percent pay cut, during the Republican shutdown last year.
