Ex-Coleman staffers detail D.C. experiences in fictional novel ‘Capitol Hell’

A pair of ex-staffers for former U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman have a released a new novel that weaves in their personal experiences working in Washington, D.C., into a fiction novel, reports Northland’s News Center.

Co-written by Minnesota native Jayne Jones and University of Minnesota graduate Alicia Long, “Capitol Hell” follows the rise of fictional Minnesota Sen. Anders McDermott III, who has his eye on the White House. The authors say the book is not specifically about working with Coleman.

The book’s publisher described “Capitol Hell” as a saucy novel about crazy co-workers and high-maintenance politicians and over-the-top entourages. The intention of the book is meant to be “offbeat and hilarious.” The authors were profiled by the Star Tribune when the book was still being written.

The book will be available Tuesday, and Jones and Long have scheduled signing appearances and other promotional stops — which they are dubbing their “campaign” tour  — in 14 cities across Minnesota Tuesday and Wednesday.

See an interview with Jones and Long about “Capitol Hell” below.

Coleman, the former St. Paul mayor who served as U.S. Senator from 2003 to 2009, has kept himself busy since losing the hotly-contested 2008 election for his senate seat to Al Franken.

He was hired as a special adviser on Republican Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign a year ago, and was recently profiled by the Star Tribune as one of the top fundraisers for the GOP.
