Zebra mussels pesticide shows promise in small test

A pesticide treatment may be working in Minnesota’s battle against the invasive zebra mussel, which has been spreading from lake to lake, MPR reports.

The Department of Natural Resources treated Rose Lake in northern Minnesota’s Otter Tail County with chemicals last fall, and two divers who scoured the lake this week did not find any zebra mussels, MPR says. It doesn’t mean they weren’t there, but it was a hopeful moment in what has been the DNR’s frustrating battle against the invasive species.

At one count in late July, zebra mussels had spread to at least 60 lakes.
