Grand Forks Zombie Run hits dead end

Minnesotans who planned on strolling across the border to Grand Forks, N.D., to become one of the walking dead in October will have to kick up their feet and relax at home this year.

The 5K Zombie Run, which was scheduled in conjunction with the Grand Forks Zombie Music Fest on Oct. 6, has been scrapped over conflicts with another marathon, reports the Grand Forks Herald. It will return next year.

One of the event’s organizers, Laura Jelinek, says a “great deal of manpower in order” was needed to properly construct safe, challenging obstacles for the officials and runners acting as zombies, and the time to do that wasn’t there because of competing marathon.

Minnesotans hoping to step out as one of the walking dead this fall won’t be left completely out in cold, however. Zombie Pub Crawl VIII is set for Oct. 13 in the Twin Cities. Organizers this year are hoping to make the Guinness Book of World Records as the “largest zombie gathering on earth.”

Interest in the zombie culture has exploded in the last couple of years, thanks to the popularity of the AMC television drama “The Walking Dead.”

A year ago, gun stores in the state were bombarded with calls seeking Zombie Max ammunition … just in case a zombie plague takes hold of the world.
