Over 23,000 apply for state’s first wolf hunt

Only 6,000 permits will be awarded and over 23,000 have applied for the state’s wolf hunt. The Star Tribune reports there was significant interest in Minnesota and all over the country to participate on Nov. 3.

Opponents of the hunt rallied in downtown Duluth Friday in an attempt to keep wolves off limits for at least one more year, the Duluth News Tribune says. Wolf advocates say their goal is to influence Gov. Dayton to use his authority to stop the hunt.

The hunt faced a bit of resistance in the Twin Cities by a the group Howling for Wolves. The activists oppose a hunting season given the gray wolf was just removed from the endangered species list this year.
