St. Paul man runs wrong route, marathon ‘win’ disqualified

Olok Nykew, 37, of St. Paul, said he was surprised to see the end of the Sioux Falls Marathon on Sunday come up so quickly. And he was even more surprised when he was initially thought to be the winner of the race.

In fact, he had only run a half marathon and he was disqualified from the event, the Argus Leader reported.

“I was just confused. It was an honest mistake,” Nykew told the newspaper.

It made for an odd finish. But hardly the weirdest ever. Runners World collected nine unforgettable Olympic marathon moments.
