State narrows list of construction projects in running for grant money

Gov. Mark Dayton is likely to announce this week which construction projects will be funded through $47.5 million set aside by the Legislature. Out of 90 applications, the Department of Employment and Economic Development has identified and ranked 37 it prefers.

The projects were sorted into northern Minnesota, the Twin Cities area, and southern Minnesota. The highest-scoring applicant in the Twin Cities area was a minor league baseball stadium for St. Paul. The Pioneer Press notes that money for cleaning part of the former Army Ammunition Plant site in Arden Hills was left off the list.

In northern Minnesota, a new office tower in downtown Duluth topped the list.

As for convention center expansions, St. Cloud’s ranked high on the list while Mankato’s did not.
