Mauer, fiancée dedicate playroom at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare

Twins catcher Joe Mauer and fiancée Maddie Bisanz dedicated a sports-themed playroom that Mauer donated to Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. The Star Tribune reports longtime patient 11-year-old Logan Swedberg threw the first pitch to Mauer in the new room filled with memorabilia from members of Minnesota sports teams.

KSTP-TV reports Swedberg was born with a disorder so uncommon it remains unnamed. The boy is also the face of Gillette’s “Cure Pity” campaign, an online pledge asking the public to reject pity and take action to improve the lives of children with disabilities.

Bisanz, a nurse at the hospital, went to high school with Mauer at Cretin-Derham Hall. The two were engaged in December, the newspaper says.
