Mayo-developed mobile heart monitor is FDA approved

A heartbeat monitoring system that allows doctors to monitor a patient’s heartbeat from a mobile device was FDA approved Monday. The Post-bulletin reports the BodyGuardian Remote Monitoring System was created by Preventice in collaboration with Mayo Clinic and will be used to track non-lethal arrhythmia or irregular heart beats through a secure website.

The patient wears a small, bandage-like sensor with a battery operated monitor that is placed directly on the skin, according to the company’s website.

Mayo Clinic cardiologists discuss how this technology allows doctors to identify problems earlier by allowing monitoring to take place while patients are out of the hospital.
