Planned Parenthood joins gay marriage, voter ID fights

Planned Parenthood intends to use its own staff and resources to campaign specifically against two amendments on the November ballot in Minnesota, MPR reports. The group opposes the measures that would ban gay marriage and require voters to bring valid photo ID to polling places.

Those issues don’t neatly fall into Planned Parenthood’s missions, but the issues are important to the group’s allies, MPR reports.

A SurveyUSA/KSTP poll this month shows both amendments are likely to pass.

The fight against the marriage amendment has drawn a few high-profile opponents, including Capella University, the Minnesota Orchestra and St. Jude Medical, as well as a bigger share of the money being spent on the measure.
