Hunters take aim at waterfowl; teen injured on Iron Range

Thousands of hunters took to their blinds on Minnesota lakes and wetlands for opening weekend of the waterfowl hunting season. One accident marred the opener: an Eveleth teenager was injured when his brother’s shotgun went off as their canoe tipped over.

For most hunters, though, things went smoothly. The DNR expected that the dry weather might improve hunters’ chances by concentrating ducks and geese in fewer wet areas.

If this hunting season is like last year’s Minnesotans will take nearly a quarter-million Canada geese. But the Pioneer Press reports the bird’s numbers keep rising anyway.
