Low Minnesota rivers hurt businesses, boaters

Some Minnesota rivers have been drained by drought, and some have dropped so low that state officials have suspended water pumping permits for dozens of businesses, including golf courses, nurseries and sod-growing operations, MPR reports.

Much of the state – indeed, most of the Midwest – has struggled with drought in the last few months. It’s likely to be one of the very driest Septembers the state has ever seen.

About 96 percent of Minnesota was listed as dry in a recent survey, and the number of wildfires has doubled the state average for September.

City officials have been pleading with residents to water city trees in front of their homes, MPR reported.
