Kenya man, Portland woman win brisk marathon

Roughly 28,000 runners braved the chilly temperatures this weekend and laced up their shoes for the 31st Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, Minnesota Public Radio reports. Nearly 12,000 people took part in the 26.2 mile race from downtown Minneapolis to the State Capitol in St. Paul on Sunday. More than 9,000 runners took part in the 10 mile-race.

Christopher Kipyego of Kenya, a former Grandma’s Marathon winner, won the Twin Cities Marathon on Sunday, the Star Tribune reports. He finished the race with a time of 2 hours, 14 minutes and 55 seconds.

Jeannette Faber of Portland, Ore., was the first woman to cross the finish line to set a personal record time of 2 hours, 32 minutes and 38 seconds.

Duluth native and Olympian Kara Goucher was the second woman to finish the 10-mile race in 53:56, the Duluth News Tribune reports
