Central Corridor LRT train makes first stop in Minneapolis

The Metropolitan Council presented Wednesday the new light rail train that will travel the Central Corridor Light Rail Transit line, or the “Green Line,” in 2014, Finance & Commerce reports. The $3.3 million vehicle was delivered to the Twin Cities three weeks ago and 47 more are expected to be used on the 11-mile LRT line between St. Paul and Minneapolis.

The new trains have the best technology available, the report noted, with 1,000 new features including better insulation, improved heating and cooling systems and more safety features.

Although no official opening date has been set, there are hopes of beginning service by July 15, 2014 for the MLB All Star Game at Target Field, the business newspaper reports.

The Star Tribune reports, 27 Hiawatha rails cars will be repainted and rebranded as the “Blue Line” in the coming months.

The Central Corridor project was 74 percent complete in August, the newspaper says.
