Polls: 8th District race dead heat; Cravaack has good fundraising quarter

The filing deadline isn’t even until next week, but Republican U.S. Rep. Chip Cravaack’s re-election campaign has announced that the incumbent lawmaker raised more than $471,000 in the three months ending Sept. 30, the most he has raised in a single quarter, MPR reports. Cravaack’s DFL opponent Rick Nolan hasn’t yet disclosed his fundraising numbers for the quarter.

As one of the most hotly contested races in the nation, the battle for the sprawling 8th Congressional District seat is drawing millions of dollars from political interest groups outside the state, the Star Tribune reports.

Three recent polls confirm the conventional wisdom: Cravaack and Nolan are virtually tied in the race, the Pioneer Press reports.

The two candidates sparred for the first time on Monday in Duluth, disagreeing about just about everything in a spirited debate, the Duluth News Tribune reported.
