NYC Mayor Bloomberg gives $125,000 to fight Minnesota gay marriage ban

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is donating $125,000 to defeat the constitutional gay marriage ban on Minnesota’s November ballot, the Associated Press reports. The donation is among the biggest contributions to Minnesotans United for All Families, the group that is leading the fight against the ballot measure.

Bloomberg announced the donation on Monday on his website. He is also making donations of $250,000 in Washington and $125,000 in Maine to support marriage equality campaigns there, and he has made a $250,000 donation in Maryland.

“Marriage equality is the next big step in America’s long march of freedom,” Bloomberg said. “The barriers to it are bound to fall; the question is not if but when.”
