Supporters of voter ID amendment say TV ad breaks campaign law

ProtectMyVote.com, a driving force behind support for the proposed voter ID amendment says a recently released television ad deceives voters and is in violation of a Minnesota campaign law.

In a formal complaint filed with the Office of Administrative Hearings the group says the ad from Our Vote Our Future featuring a veteran saying “military IDs aren’t valid IDs” makes a false claim.

Dan McGrath, chairman of ProtectMyVote.com, said in a news release that the statement is a blatant lie and a military ID is considered “valid government-issued photo identification,” like the proposed amendment states.

Eric Fought, communications director for Our Vote Our Future, tells the Star Tribune that the amendment language lacks specific details and does not include any exemption for military IDs.
