Romney to launch TV ads in Minnesota

Republican Mitt Romney will begin running TV ads in Minnesota this weekend, with just over a week to go before the election, the Associated Press reports.

Politico calls the move “a made-for-media head-fake buy,” and it’s not clear what it would accomplish. If the campaigns genuinely believe Minnesota is competitive, the candidates would actually show up in the state, Politico says. The president has no such plans, but next week both Obama and Romney are heading to Wisconsin.

A recent poll showed President Barack Obama still has a solid lead in the state that has not voted for a Republican president since Richard Nixon in 1972. Nate Silver, who tracks polling data for the New York Times, gives Obama a 97 percent chance of winning Minnesota.
