The wife of Michael Brodkorb issued a brief statement Friday saying that the high-profile GOP political operative’s condition “has improved” after he was critically injured in a one-vehicle crash earlier this week, WCCO-TV reports.
Brodkorb, 39, was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul in critical condition after the crash Wednesday night. Word of his condition has been scant since then.
In her statement Friday, Sarah Brodkorb said, “Michael’s condition has improved. We thank everyone for their concern, warm thoughts and prayers. As we focus on Michael’s health, we ask that the media and the public continue to respect our wishes for privacy.”
A media advisory was released Thursday: “Family members of Michael Brodkorb ask that the media and the public respect their privacy during this time. For this reason, Regions Hospital will not be releasing any information to the media or public. Regions Hospital will contact the media with any updated information if it becomes available.”
Fox 9 reported, “Sources say Brodkorb’s condition had stabilized by Thursday night,” but did not disclose the sources.
A State Patrol spokesman said Thursday that Brodkorb’s “injuries were severe but non-life threatening” as of Wednesday night, the Star Tribune reported.
The State Patrol said a trooper smelled alcohol on Brodkorb’s breath after the crash. The State Patrol says Brodkorb hit a median on Interstate 35E at Highway 13. He was not wearing a seatbelt and his airbag deployed, according to a State Patrol report.
Brodkorb, 39, of Eagan, is involved in a highly publicized lawsuit he filed against the Senate over his 2011 firing as the state Senate Republicans’ communications director, after it was revealed that he had an affair with his boss, then-Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch. He alleges gender discrimination.
