Spring Training: Yanks bomb Worley, Diamond set to DL

Not the sharpest outing for Vance Worley today against the Yankees in Florida.

Worley gave up four runs through five innings, as New York topped Minnesota, 9-7, in spring training play.

Worley has a 6.35 ERA this spring.

In other Twins headlines:

Pitchers Scott Diamond and Anthony Swarzak will start the season on the disabled list. Diamond is expected to be in the rotation when he returns, Swarzak in the bullpen.

Also: outfielder Joe Benson was sent to Triple-A Rochester.

Last night against the Yankees, a much different result for the Twins against the Bombers.

Liam Hendriks and the  bullpen combined for a one-hitter, topping New York, 5-1. Hendriks allowed the hit and gave up one unearned run in four innings. He struck out two and walk two.

Miguel Sano, the Twins’ top prospect, finished 2-for-5 with a pair of singles.

The Pioneer Press reports that Sano had a chance to catch up with his mentor, Yankees star, Robinson Cano. After the game Cano said Sano “can be one of the best players in this game.”
