Man charged for bogus bomb threats at MOA, MSP airport

A 22-year-old man is facing federal charges for making false threats that bombs were planted at the Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport, the Mall of America and several metro hotels last month, the Star Tribune reports. Authorities say no explosives were ever found.

Dana William Ashey, formerly of Maine, is charged with two felony counts of false information and hoaxes, according to a news release.

“When yet another call came that afternoon to the Mall of America alleging yet another bomb threat, authorities were able to trace that call and found the caller still inside the Mall of America,” U.S. Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Jeanne Cooney told MPR.

If convicted, Ashey faces up to five years in federal prison on each count.
