Gopher women keep streak alive with 2-1 win over Badgers

It wasn’t easy, but the Golden Gophers women’s hockey team stretched it’s record win streak to 52 with a win over the Badgers, 2-1 Friday night.

The less experienced Gophers were in a hole after two periods, getting outshot 30-11 (18-5 in the second period).

“Embarrassing,” coach Brad Frost said of that second period, as reported by the Star Tribune. “We’re young. We’ve got to learn some lessons the hard way. For us, that second period, being embarrassed like that, was learning a lesson.”

St. Paul native Milica McMillan’s goal 7:12 into the third period proved to be the game-winner. It wouldn’t have been possible without a tremendous performance by sophomore goalie Amanda Leveille, who stopped 34 of 35 shots.

“It was nice to see the team turn it around there in the third, get that goal and then just really shut it down defensively,” Frost said, according to GopherSports.com. “That’s always been a staple of our program, to take care of things in the defensive end and I thought we did a nice job. Amanda Leveille was tremendous, particularly in that second period.”
