WCCO bringing Al Malmberg back for late shift

A familiar voice is returning to WCCO-AM.

The Pioneer Press reports the station is bringing back former overnight host Al Malmberg starting Dec. 16.

Malmberg will be on the air weeknights from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m., WCCO-AM says.

Station director Bob Shomper says WCCO is “thrilled” to have Malmberg return, calling him “one of our most popular hosts with a huge and loyal following.”

“I am so glad to be back on WCCO. I’ve really missed talking to all of my friends across the upper Midwest on the big ‘50,000-watt blowtorch,'” Malmberg said.

During his previous tenure at WCCO from 1996 to 2008, Malmberg hosted a show from 1-5 a.m., although for a time he hosted the afternoon drive shift.

WCCO has had a void to fill in the late night since the sudden departure of host Tommy Mischke in August.
