Presidential candidate Jill Stein to attend local Forum for Black America

A local community activist group is hosting Green Party candidate Jill Stein for Forum on Black America next week.

This will be the second presidential candidate Minnesota Neighborhoods Organizing for Change (NOC) has hosted for its forum. Bernie Sanders spoke at the community event back in February, and the group has invited Hillary Clinton to attend a similar forum, according to NOC’s website.

The forum, which is being held next Tuesday, will focus on African Americans experiences in the United States and Minnesota. Topics of the forum will include how the federal government can use public resources to invest in solutions to fix racial disparities.

One of Stein’s main issues for her campaign is putting an end to racial injustice. In a series of tweets last month, the presidential candidate discussed police brutality and said we need to “invest in jobs and education, not war and incarceration” to affirm with “our words and actions that black lives matter.”

Stein, who won the Green Party nomination last weekend, previously ran for president in 2012, MPR News says, noting she’s been “actively courting Sanders supporters to back her candidacy.”

In announcing the event, NOC said this is not an endorsement of any candidate.

Attending the event

The Aug. 16 event at the Capri Theater on West Broadway Avenue in Minneapolis is free to attend. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the forum scheduled to being at 6 p.m.

To guarantee a seat at the forum, you can pick up advance tickets at the NOC office until Monday at 5 p.m. If you can’t make it, NOC will be live-streaming the forum.

Here’s video from the forum NOC had with Sanders:
