Fridley police have released video footage of the crash that sent one of their squad cars rolling. Click here to watch.

A Fridley police officer suffered minor injuries when he was hit by another vehicle, causing his squad car to roll over.

The incident happened around 8:10 a.m. Friday when the officer was pursuing someone who ran a red light, the Fridley Police Department said in a news release.

The officer – driving a marked Ford Utility with its lights flashing – was driving southbound on University Avenue at the intersection of Mississippi Street Northeast.

When he was going through the intersection, he was hit by a vehicle traveling eastbound. All the other drivers at the intersection had stopped for the officer, police said.

The collision caused the officer’s squad car to flip onto its roof.

The officer, who was wearing his seatbelt, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Authorities say the officer has been released and is recovering at home.

The driver of the other vehicle – an adult male – and his female passenger complained of minor injuries, and police say she was taken to a local hospital as well.

As for the person who ran the red light, Fridley police say they haven’t been identified and did not stop at the scene.

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the crash.
