Group of hundreds roam downtown St. Paul looking for rare Pokemon

If you see a horde of hundreds of zombie-like people walking around downtown St. Paul late at night, you’ve not suddenly been transported into a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

No, instead what you’re seeing are Pokemon Go players staring at their phones as they hunt for a rare Pokemon.

There have been a few mentions the past few days on social media of “hundreds” of people walking around downtown St. Paul – including in the Rice Park area – as they attempt to catch a Dragonite, one of the strongest Pokemon in the game.

A Reddit user “ArabRedditor” posted on Saturday that they saw “500 people crossing streets and jumping out of their cars” late on Friday night, with the Redditor themselves saying they were out hunting between 10 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.

“I’m having fun banter with strangers and getting ready to fight gym with my cousin when a kid in a green shirt next to met gets wide-eyed and books it away from us,” he wrote.

“Within five seconds of that kid running I look at my ‘nearbys’ and there is a [expletive] Dragonite, before I can utter a word everyone runs with the kid in the green shirt.”

“All In all there were plenty of laughs and curses from people who did not get it but it was a great experience,” he added.

Judging by Twitter, this seems to have been a common sight in the city over recent weeks.
