Avenged Sevenfold announce surprise, free show at First Avenue

Heavy metal group Avenged Sevenfold will give fans a preview of their U.S. Bank Stadium show after announcing a surprise – and free – gig at First Avenue on Thursday night.

The band confirmed the show on their website Wednesday morning, saying the gig will be free and open to the public, with entry granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

“We got into Minneapolis a little bit early and decided we wanted to play a small gig to get the blood flowing again,” the band said. “We called up the world famous First Avenue and asked if we could play a free show tomorrow night … and they said yes! So, there you have it.”

Entry will be granted to the first 1,500 people through the doors.

It will come two days before the group takes to the stage supporting Metallica at a sold-out U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Saturday. (The Metallica show will be streamed live by Pandora.)

Avenged Sevenfold’s career spans 17 years, a release from First Avenue says, which has earned them “numerous awards, chart-topping singles, and accolades from critics and fans for life.”

The famous venue says the group has “some of the most dedicated fans in the heavy metal scene,” and also displays a philanthropic side, partnering with charity organizations such as the Living the Dream Foundation to help fans with terminal diseases.

“The band looks to give back to their fans whenever possible, making a free show like this in Minneapolis the perfect way to bring the band and fans together,” it says.

Doors to the show open at 7 p.m., with an 18-plus age limit in place. Valid ID will be required for entry.
