The United States women’s basketball team captured their sixth consecutive gold medal with a 101-72 win over Spain at the Olympic Games in Rio. All four Minnesota Lynx players played their part in the win too.
Maya Moore had 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists while Lindsay Whalen had a team-high 17 points off the bench on 8-13 shooting.
Sylvia Fowles was a force defensively pulling down 6 rebounds and Seimone Augustus had 6 points and 3 rebounds.
Diana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury matched Whalen’s 17 points which included 5 3-pointers.
As a team the U.S. played a solid two-way game. Offensively the team shot 58 percent from the floor and played tough defense as Spain shot just 38 percent in the loss.
The victory also extends the U.S. women’s Olympic winning streak to 49 games.
With the Olympics coming to an end, the Lynx will return to action next Friday, Aug. 26 when they play the Connecticut Sun.
