Haley Hinrichs will get her likeness carved in a big block of butter.
The 19-year-old college student from Goodhue County was crowned the 63rd Princess Kay of the Milky Way at the Minnesota State Fair Wednesday night.
She was among 12 women competing for the title, and now Hinrichs will spend the next year being the official goodwill ambassador for Minnesota’s 3,000-plus dairy farmers, the Midwest Dairy Association says.
Hinrichs joined U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar at the gates to mark opening day of the fair Thursday morning.
Next on Princess Kay’s list of duties is sitting in a rotating cooler in the State Fair’s Dairy Building as her likeness is carved into a 90-pound block of butter. (Click here for more information on how it’s done.)
The other 11 Princess Kay finalists will also have their images carved into butter throughout the fair’s 12-day run.
Hinrichs is studying agriculture education and communications at Iowa State University, FOX 9 reports.
