State Fair sets attendance record on #UniteInPurple Prince day

Attendance at the Minnesota State Fair broke a record on Friday – 141,023 people.

The State Fair says that’s the highest ever for the second day of the fair. It broke the previous record of 132,738 set in 2010.

That’s significantly higher than last year when 114,292 turned up for the second day.

Friday was a special day as fairgoers spent the night celebrating Prince, so that may have played a part.

There were purple buttons, bracelets, and even cheese curds. To read more about the fair’s “Unite in Purple” celebration, click here.

The first day of the State Fair was also busy, with attendance numbers clocking in at the third highest in the history of State Fair opening days.

Those numbers don’t even come close to the highest daily attendance on record, though – 252,092 in 2014. That was set on the second Saturday of the fair which has a tendency to be the busiest.

A look at Saturday

Saturday afternoon looks to be another busy day.

If you check out the State Fair’s Twitter feed, you can usually find which Park and Rides are full.

As of 3:30 p.m., many lots still have space.

Saturday night, the Dixie Chicks will perform at the Grandstand. Their 7 p.m. show is sold out, though.
