The lucky 13… Twins snap their losing streak with a win over Chicago

For the first time since Aug. 17 the Twins are in the win column. They defeated the Chicago White Sox 8-5 on Thursday night, ending a 13-game losing streak.

Another loss on Thursday would have equaled the longest streak since the Twins arrived in Minnesota 55 years ago.

The win is pretty impressive, too, considering White Sox starter Jose Quintana entered play leading the American League with a 2.77 ERA.

The Twins put up a crooked number in the bottom of 2nd inning thanks to Byron Buxton’s 3-run home run in his first at-bat since being recalled from Rochester.

Trevor Plouffe also added a home run, his 10th of the season. Eight of the nine Twins starters collected a hit in the game.

Ervin Santana picked up the win, scattering 11 hits. He allowed 2 earned runs while striking out 6. Brandon Kinztler picked up the save for the Twins, his first since Aug. 16.

The Twins will try to keep their perfect record in September intact on Friday night when they send Kyle Gibson to the mound.
