Gorgeous start to the Labor Day weekend

The Labor Day weekend is setting out to have a beautiful start statewide, although with a chance of thunderstorms for northern Minnesota starting tonight.

For the Twin Cities and central Minnesota the forecast is expected to be mostly sunny with a high in the mid-70s during the day, the National Weather Service said.

Overnight temperatures will drop to the low 60s and will be mostly clear.

For northeast Minnesota there is a chance of thunderstorms later tonight, but they are not expected to be severe, NWS said.

Otherwise, it will be a sunny, breezy day with temperatures around 76 degrees and with wind gusts up to 25 mph.

The NWS has issued a hazardous weather outlook for portions of northwest and west central Minnesota that includes a marginal risk for severe weather.

A trough of low pressure and a front later in the afternoon will create the conditions for thunderstorm development. Large hail and gusty winds will be a threat, mainly after 1 a.m.
