The Oregon Trail card game is making its way back on to Target’s shelves.
The card game based on the Minnesota-made computer classic sold out within the Twin Cities area less than two days after it was released, and it was unavailable at basically every Target location shortly after that.
Target at the time called the demand “unprecedented” for a game.
Four weeks later, the game is beginning to be replenished at Target stores, Target spokesperson Lee Henderson told BringMeTheNews Monday.
“The product is starting to flow back into stores,” Henderson said in an email, adding he doesn’t have specifics but it is being “replenished across the chain.”
So where can I find it?
Your best bet is to use the Oregon Trail card game listing on Target.com to check availability locally. But note it’s not always up-to-the-minute accurate – call that store ahead of time too.
A handful of Twin Cities stores had it last Friday, and there are a few more as of Labor Day (including Nicollet Mall, Lake Street, St. Paul Midway, Richfield, Crystal and Northtown) – though some only have three or five copies left, according to Target.com.
Edina had some late last week (which is where this writer managed to get one, finally), but it’s listed as out of stock at that location now. So they might once again go quick.
In the Northland, Virginia had it Monday, but that was the only one – Duluth, Grand Rapids, Superior were all out. It was pretty widely available in the northwest, with Moorhead, Fargo, Grand Forks, Alexandria and Bemidji all listing it as in stock.
It’s widely available around Rochester (Owatonna, Winona, Northfield and more) though not in any of the Rochester city stores. And Willmar, Hutchinson and Watertown had it in the southwest.
Target is super into the games right now
The bullseye is betting big on board games.
Target announced Monday it’s bringing 50 new exclusive games to its stores starting this fall, and will be introducing some at Gen-Con this week.
The reason? Double-digit growth for board games at Target, Senior Vice President of Merchandising Scott Nygaard said in the announcement.
