Police investigating 2 overnight shootings in downtown Minneapolis

Police in Minneapolis are investigating two shootings that happened two blocks apart in downtown overnight.

The first happened at 5th Street South and Hennepin Avenue South at 1:57 a.m. Monday. An off-duty officer witnessed a suspect shoot a man in the back and a woman in the hip, a news release says.

The officer chased the armed suspect into a nearby parking lot, where he was arrested.

The man is said to have suffered non-life threatening injuries, while the woman underwent surgery and is listed in stable condition.

Police looking for suspect in 2nd shooting

The second shooting happened at 2:19 a.m. near 5th Street North and 2nd Avenue North, a news release says.

Officers were in the area and heard multiple gunshots. When they got to the scene, they found a man being loaded into a vehicle – a bullet had grazed his head.

The officers gave the man medical care until paramedics arrived. He was taken to the hospital and is being treated for a non-life threatening injury.

Investigators are looking at camera footage in the area in hopes of identifying a suspect.

Officers will be in the area in the coming days to speak with community members and business owners, and police “strongly encourage” people to speak to them about this crime or any other concerns they have.

Anyone with information on either shooting is asked to contact police, either by calling the police tip line at 612-692-8477 or texting their tip to 847411.
