Wentz was doing the most Midwestern thing ever when he got the starting QB job

Carson Wentz is so North Dakota that he was laying in a cornfield when he got a call from the Eagles letting him know he would be their starting quarterback to begin the season.

“I was laying in the middle of a cornfield hunting,” the former North Dakota State quarterback said Monday in a press conference.

“I got the call, and I was obviously very surprised, but instantly, I was very excited,” Wentz said. “A lot of excitement going on. We quickly cleaned up and got out of there because there were so many emotions going on. I was with my family and stuff. But now, it’s down to business. I can tell you that I’m very confident and excited in this opportunity.”

For the record, it was a cornfield in New Jersey.

Wentz, who played just one preseason game because of a fractured rib, is starting in Philadelphia because the Eagles traded Sam Bradford to the Vikings on Saturday.

The Eagles host the Cleveland Browns to open the season on Sunday afternoon.
