If you’re not a fan of the hot dogs/pizza/burgers/nachos staples at Target Center, take note – the menu is changing.
Fhima will be in Target Center for every home game, and other local chefs will pop in throughout the season for special custom menu nights, according to the release.
There will be two prongs to this: One will be to use “the best possible ingredients,” including “clean, local, organic and non-GMO when possible,” which fits right in line with current food trends. Two, will be a more “global” menu.
The changes will also come in waves, along with the building renovations.
So the suite level is being worked on now – and the menu for the suite level is being adjusted as well, and they’ll be in effect for the upcoming season (for fans in the Chairman’s Suites and Theater Boxes).
As work moves to the concourses, the revamped menu and concessions for those will be unveiled. That’s not coming until the 2017-18 season though.
“We are thrilled to have David join us as we undergo this very important part of the Target Center renovation,” said Timberwolves and Lynx CEO Ethan Casson in the news release.
Recognize David Fhima’s name?
You might have read or seen Fhima’s name before.
In the early 2000s, Fhima landed a $700,000 subsidy from the city of St. Paul to open another restaurant, called Fhima’s, CityPages reported. But over the next half decade he ran into trouble, and closed that restaurant along with two others – Minneapolis Cafe and Louis XIII, as the Business Journal notes.
And at one point, someone felt so aggrieved by Fhima, they started an apparently short-lived blog called fhimacansuckit.blogspot.com.
In 2008, he filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, as the Star Tribune reported.
But he’s continued on and done much more since then.
He was the corporate chef for Lifetime Fitness, and helped Wazyata High School redo its lunch menu for students, the Heavy Table said (while also noting those high schoolers were getting Dominos pizza twice a week before).
And Faces Mears Park – which serves an American twist on Moroccan, French and Mediterranean foods – has been plugging along for years now.
