Twins will wear No. 11 patch in remembrance of Jacob Wetterling

The Minnesota Twins will be wearing patches bearing “11” for an upcoming game to honor Jacob Wetterling.

Twins players will be wearing red jerseys, which will include the No. 11 patch, for the Friday home game against Cleveland, the team announced Thursday. The Indians’ players will also be wearing the No. 11 patch.

And after the ganme, the team will auction off 11 of the jerseys, including the “11” patch, with proceeds going to the Jacob Wetterling Resource Foundation. The auction will be online here.

The patch is to support the #11forJacob effort started by the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center following this week’s confession from the man who kidnapped and killed Jacob back in 1989.

The resource center, working with Jacob’s mother Patty Wetterling, put out a list of 11 ideas (Jacob, a big sports fan, wore No. 11) for people who wanted to commit to “a culture of kindness and compassion.”

It includes things like be thankful, be positive, be generous, and be understanding.

The list was put together after a youth soccer team asked if they could all wear No. 11 jerseys for an upcoming game.

The resource center then encouraged others to take part, and show how they’re participating. On Thursday, they posted some of the photos they’d received to Facebook.

“Thank you to all of the people who are making a commitment to living with the 11 character traits in honor of Jacob. The photos coming in are beautiful,” the center wrote.
