Minnesota Twins owner Jim Pohlad wrote a long letter Thursday, thanking season ticket holders for their patience during this rough season.
The Twins are 52-88, in line for the top pick in the 2017 MLB Draft.
“Dear (Season Ticket Holder),
I am writing this letter to sincerely thank you and all of our Season Ticket Holders, who have remained steadfast and loyal Minnesota Twins fans despite our performance on the field. Like you, I had high hopes for 2016, and while there have been some moments to celebrate, I am truly disappointed with our overall record.
The Twins have been a passion in my family for over 30 years. Commitment to our team and responsibility to our community is something we’ve learned first-hand over three decades of ownership. We don’t take this responsibility lightly. The performance of our team has not met the expectations of our fans, our players and coaches, our employees or our family. We believe it is our duty to put a competitive product on the field and we will do what it takes to get it right. You and all of Twins Territory deserve it.
As you know, we are in the midst of a search for new leadership of our baseball operations. With new leadership comes an opportunity to create positive change while reinvigorating the fun, passion, hustle and heart that is the fabric of the Twins Tradition. While much work remains to find the right leader, we are extremely excited about the quality of candidates thus far. We will work to keep you informed as much as possible while this process plays out.
On the field, we believe in the presence and baseball acumen of Hall of Famer Paul Molitor. In my mind, the tools that made him successful as a player — determination, grit and intelligence — make him the right person to lead our team into the future. In terms of our players, we are making progress and are optimistic about 2017 and beyond. We are encouraged by the development of our young talent and what some of these players are doing at the major league level. While exciting, we also recognize that it all begins and ends with pitching. Please know we are actively looking for ways to create improvement on the mound.
The other important part of your Twins experience is, of course, Target Field. This continues to be a bright spot and we hope you’ll agree it is one of the best venues in baseball and all of sports. Rest assured, we will never take our home field for granted. You have my personal commitment that we are constantly looking for ways to make Target Field the best it can possibly be for our fans.
In closing, I want to say thank you! Thank you for being a loyal and unwavering Season Ticket Holder. Thank you for sticking with us during this rough stretch and I ask that you will continue to be there as we work to turn this team around. Getting our Twins back on track requires dedication from ownership, management and our players. But just as important, we need you. Ask any of our players and they will all tell you how important our fans are to this team. You are the fuel to their fire.
We appreciate your continued support of Twins baseball and I look forward to exciting things ahead.
P.S. During the week of September 12th, look for a message in your email inbox from Paul Molitor, Brian Dozier and our president, Dave St. Peter, with more perspective on the state of the franchise. Your 2017 season ticket renewal will also be available at that time — pricing will remain unchanged and your first payment date will be extended until the end of October.”
