Report: This could be Larry Fitzgerald’s last year in the NFL

2016 could be the year football says goodbye to Minnesota’s own Larry Fitzgerald.

Sources have told NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport that the Arizona Cardinals’ wide receiver is expected to retire come the end of the season.

Should that be the case, he will retire as one of the great modern receivers.

As of the start of the season, he has piled up 13,366 yards from 1,018 receptions during his 11 years with the Cardinals, and is just two touchdowns away from 100.

The Minneapolis native attended the Richfield Academy of Holy Angels before going on to attend the University of Pittsburgh, where he was widely considered one of the best receivers in college football.

The 9-time Pro Bowler was drafted 3rd overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2004 NFL draft.

According to AZCardinals.com, he signed during training camp a contract extension through the 2017 season, after he passed 1,000 yards for the first time in four years last season.

If it is his final season in the NFL, he has the chance to go out on top, with the Cardinals highly touted as possible Super Bowl winners this year.

VegasInsider currently has the Cardinals as 6th favorites to win the big one at 12-1, behind the Patriots, Packers, Seahawks, Steelers and Panthers (the Vikings are 12th at 30-1).
