A man has been charged with threatening to “stab” and “chop up” a mother and daughter in Brainerd, while holding a bow and arrow, a saw and a hammer.
According to a criminal complaint, Marshall Jarvela, 35, made the threats against a woman and her mother, on whose land on 50th Ave. he lives in an RV, after they returned home from Walmart last Wednesday, Sept 7.
Jarvela and his girlfriend, who also lives in the RV, had visited the two woman the night before, but Jarvela’s mood changed the next morning when he came into the house looking for his girlfriend.
After initially leaving, he returned after the two women got back from Walmart, at which point he said “he was going to stab them and chop them up.
The complaint says:
When he said this, she [the daughter] said, Jarvela was holding an arrow, a saw, and a hammer. The woman said Jarvela also held up the hammer and was threatening to kill both her and her mother.
The woman and her mother then locked themselves in the house and called 911. The woman said she was scared for the safety of her and her mother, and did not want Jarvela to return to the property.
When police arrived, Jarvela was still holding the weapons, but eventually dropped them after being ordered several times by police at gunpoint.
He was ultimately hit with a stun gun as he continued to resist arrest and was taken into custody.
He has been charged with two counts of non-firearm assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of making terroristic threats, and one count of obstructing a peace officer.
