First there was Brexit, and now there is #Breadxit.
That’s the hashtag being used by angry fans of “The Great British Baking Show,” who have been making their feelings known after a shocking development Monday.
The amateur baking competition, which has been a hit on PBS in the U.S. and is known as “The Great British Bake-Off” across the Atlantic, has been thrown into turmoil. That’s because the show’s production company, Love Productions, rejected a £15 million-a-year bid to keep the show on the non-commercial, publicly funded BBC when it airs in the U.K., the broadcaster announced.
Instead, Love Productions accepted a larger offer of £25 million to move the show to rival broadcaster Channel 4 – which means there will now be commercial breaks – and the company’s insistence that it wasn’t about the money was a hard one for viewers to take.

The news has proved heart-baking to the army of 10 million-plus U.K. viewers, and their hopes – and cookies – crumbled even further when hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins announced Tuesday they will be quitting at the end of the current season, in the wake of the move to Channel 4.
Fans fear judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry will be next, and they came up with the pun-tastic hashtag #Breadxit to discuss Mel and Sue’s departure from the show.
