Police are looking for a suspect who stole some electronics from a St. Paul home, but he left one thing behind: a selfie.

St. Paul police say he broke into a home on the 400 block of Hatch Avenue, rummaged through the homeowner’s belongings for about 20 minutes, and then left with a cellphone, a PlayStation, a video camera and several DVDs.

Apparently the suspect didn’t realize surveillance footage from the camera he took had been stored, Steve Linders, of the St. Paul Police Department, told MPR News.

So police got several pretty clear photos of the suspect, which they released on Facebook Thursday.

“He saw the camera, he took a nice selfie of himself for us, which we’re sharing with the public,” Linders told MPR News.

The Pioneer Press reports the incident happened Aug. 21. The camera captured the suspect climbing through a ground-level window of the home while the people who live there were upstairs asleep, the paper adds.

Police are asking anyone who recognizes the man in the photos to call police at 651-266-5771.
