Report: Rays executive among candidates for Twins front office role

There is a new name popping up in the Minnesota Twins’ front office search.

According to FOX’s Ken Rosenthal, Tampa Bay Rays vice president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom is among the candidates interviewing for the spot.

Bloom, a 2004 Yale graduate, joined the Rays as an intern in February 2005 after interning with the San Diego Padres and Major League Baseball.

Bloom worked his way up through the organization’s front office and was promoted to vice president of baseball operations in October 2014.

Names on potential candidates have been more frequent the last few days. The Twins originally said they hoped to have the front office search completed before the end of the season, after they removed GM Terry Ryan.

The Pioneer Press notes that Bloom joins J.J. Picollo (Kansas City Royals), Jason McLeod (Chicago Cubs) and Derek Falvey (Cleveland Indians) as known candidates for a role with the Twins.

In Tampa Bay, Bloom oversees the Rays international scouting efforts and both domestic and international player development. He also assists Rays GM Matt Silverman with player evaluations, transactions, roster composition and contract negotiation.
